Luke Skywalker holding his green lightsaber

Complete List of Jedi Characters in Star Wars – Ranked from Most to Least Well-Known

Luke SkywalkerPerhaps the most famous Jedi in the galaxy. Luke is the hero of the original trilogy, a Tatooine farmboy who trains under Obi-Wan Kenobi and Yoda. He becomes a powerful Jedi Knight, helps redeem his father Anakin (Darth Vader), and later attempts to rebuild the Jedi Order. In Legends continuity, Luke founded a New Jedi Order and became its Grand Master. Luke’s journey—from humble beginnings to the one who saved the galaxy from the Empire—cements him as an iconic Jedi protagonist.

Master YodaThe wise Grand Master of the Jedi Order. Yoda is a mysterious green alien of great age (around 900 years old) and unparalleled wisdom. He served as the head of the Jedi Council in the prequel era and personally trained generations of Jedi (including Luke). Renowned for his distinctive speech pattern and deep connection to the Force, Yoda is one of the most powerful Jedi with legendary lightsaber skills. He guided the Jedi through the Clone Wars and, after surviving Order 66, went into exile on Dagobah until training Luke Skywalker years later.

Obi-Wan Kenobi (aka “Ben” Kenobi) – Legendary Jedi Master and mentor. Obi-Wan is introduced as the wise hermit “Ben” in A New Hope who mentors Luke. In the prequels, we see his full career: he was the Padawan of Qui-Gon Jinn and master of Anakin Skywalker. Obi-Wan fought in the Clone Wars as a General and Council member, earning fame for defeating Darth Maul and General Grievous. He trained Anakin, and later Luke, imparting the ways of the Force. Known for his calm demeanor and famous line “Hello there,” Obi-Wan had a “lengthy and turbulent career that influenced the galaxy’s destiny”. He ultimately sacrificed himself in a duel with Darth Vader, becoming one with the Force.

Anakin Skywalker Super Cool

Anakin SkywalkerThe Chosen One who fell to the dark side. Anakin began as a gifted slave boy on Tatooine, discovered by Qui-Gon Jinn. As Obi-Wan’s Padawan, Anakin became a heroic Jedi Knight during the Clone Wars – but his fear and anger led him to fall to the dark side and become Darth Vader. “The chosen one produced through midi-chlorians who grew up to become a superb Jedi” but succumbed to temptation. Despite his tragic fall, Anakin’s story arc – from enthusiastic Jedi to Sith Lord – is central to Star Wars. In the end, Anakin fulfilled the prophecy by turning back to the light and destroying the Emperor to save his son Luke, redeeming himself.

Rey Skywalker (Rey Palpatine by blood) – Jedi of the sequel era. Rey is the young heroine of the sequel trilogy, a scavenger from Jakku who discovers she is strong with the Force. She trains under Luke Skywalker (and briefly Leia) and plays a key role in defeating the resurrected Emperor Palpatine. Rey ultimately declares herself a Jedi and symbolically takes the Skywalker name. She “fought alongside the Resistance against the First Order” and, through many trials, “eventually took on the most famous of Jedi names… becoming Rey Skywalker.”. By the end of The Rise of Skywalker, Rey has embraced the Jedi path, hearing the guiding voices of past Jedi as she carries on their legacy.

Mace WinduSenior Jedi Master known for his purple lightsaber. Mace sat at Yoda’s side on the High Council and was respected as one of the Order’s greatest champions. A strict adherent to Jedi traditions, he was a formidable warrior and diplomat during the Clone Wars. Mace Windu led the Jedi to battle on Geonosis and later confronted Chancellor Palpatine upon learning he was a Sith Lord. He nearly defeated Darth Sidious with superior lightsaber skill, but Anakin’s interference led to Mace’s downfall. In Star Wars lore, Master Windu’s prowess and unique Vaapad fighting style make him one of the most powerful Jedi of his era.

Ahsoka TanoFormer Jedi Padawan turned wandering hero. Ahsoka is a Togruta who was introduced in The Clone Wars as Anakin Skywalker’s headstrong apprentice. Nicknamed “Snips,” she “was appointed by Yoda to be Anakin’s Padawan during the Clone Wars”, and the two fought many battles together. Falsely accused of treason, Ahsoka became disillusioned and left the Jedi Order before its fall. She survived Order 66 and later helped start the Rebel Alliance by operating as the secretive agent “Fulcrum.” No longer calling herself a Jedi, Ahsoka still upholds their ideals, as seen in Star Wars Rebels and The Mandalorian. Her dual white lightsabers and refusal to join the Sith or Jedi mark her as an independent light-side warrior. (Notably, Ahsoka’s popularity has soared, leading to her own series.)

General Leia OrganaPolitician, Rebel leader, and Jedi in training. Leia (Luke’s twin sister) was born with Anakin Skywalker’s strong Force potential. In canon, it’s revealed that “Leia was trained as a Jedi by Luke sometime after the events of Return of the Jedi*. She built her own lightsaber and even outdueled Luke in practice. However, sensing the death of her unborn son, Leia chose to set aside her Jedi path. She continued to use her Force abilities (as seen when she saved herself in The Last Jedi) and mentored Rey in the ways of the Force in her later years. In Legends timelines, Leia fully became a Jedi Knight under Luke’s New Jedi Order and even served on the Jedi Council, all while balancing her political career. Though Jedi training was not her primary focus in most stories, Leia’s heritage and brief training made her an important member of the Jedi legacy.

Grogu (aka “The Child”) – Force-sensitive youngling of Yoda’s species. Grogu is not yet a full Jedi, but his immense popularity warrants mention. Introduced in The Mandalorian, this 50-year-old toddler was once raised at the Jedi Temple and survived Order 66. Grogu has strong innate Force powers and a deep connection to the light side. He trained briefly under Luke Skywalker after the Empire’s fall, showcasing lightsaber skills and healing abilities. Ultimately, Grogu’s heart led him back to his Mandalorian guardian, Din Djarin. Fans lovingly call him “Baby Yoda” due to his resemblance to Master Yoda. While he remains an apprentice-level learner, Grogu’s potential and cuteness have made him one of the most famous Force users in the Star Wars fandom.

Qui-Gon Jinn Jedi Master Green Lightsaber

Qui-Gon JinnMaverick Jedi Master and mentor of Obi-Wan. Qui-Gon was a wise and strong Jedi who followed the Living Force, often bucking the Jedi Council’s more rigid views. In The Phantom Menace, he discovers Anakin Skywalker and believes him to be the prophesied “Chosen One.” Qui-Gon’s insistence on training Anakin – against the Council’s hesitations – sets the saga in motion. He’s remembered for his compassion, defiance of authority when necessary, and skill with a lightsaber. Qui-Gon was tragically slain by Darth Maul, but in death he became the first Jedi to transcend into the Force as a spirit, later teaching Yoda and Obi-Wan that path. His legacy lives on through his teachings and his faith in Anakin.

Ben Solo (Kylo Ren)Jedi-in-training who became a Sith leader. The son of Leia Organa and Han Solo, Ben Solo was strong in the Force as the grandson of Darth Vader. Luke Skywalker trained Ben and a new generation of Jedi students after the Empire. Unfortunately, Ben fell under Snoke’s influence and “betrayed his uncle and fellow Padawans,” destroying Luke’s Jedi academy and turning to the dark side as Kylo Ren. As Kylo, he led the First Order’s forces and struggled with the light still inside him. Eventually, Ben rejected the dark side and returned to the light with Rey’s help, redeeming himself by defeating the resurrected Palpatine (at the cost of his own life). His tragic fall and final redemption mirror that of his grandfather Anakin.

Ezra BridgerYoung Padawan of the early Rebellion. Ezra is the central Jedi character of Star Wars Rebels. An orphan from Lothal, Ezra joins the Ghost crew and is trained by Kanan Jarrus. He is “one of the few to be trained as a Jedi after the fall of the Republic,” growing from a street-thief into a brave freedom fighter. Ezra’s natural affinity for the Force manifests in unique ways – he can even connect with animals. During the Galactic Civil War’s dawn, Ezra becomes a symbol of hope. He helps form the Rebel Alliance, and in a final act of heroism, Ezra sacrifices himself (by whisking Grand Admiral Thrawn into hyperspace) to liberate his homeworld Lothal. Many years later, surviving Imperial loyalists seek to find Ezra in the Ahsoka series. As a Jedi Padawan and rebel leader, Ezra Bridger is well-loved by fans for his journey from troubled youth to selfless Jedi.

Kanan Jarrus (born Caleb Dume) – Survivor of Order 66 and Ezra’s mentor. Kanan is a Jedi Knight who lived in hiding after the Clone Wars. As a Padawan, Caleb Dume escaped the Purge and took the alias Kanan, forsaking the Jedi ways for a time. In Rebels, he steps up as a mentor when he meets Ezra, “teaching him the ways of the Force” despite Kanan never completing his own training formally. Kanan eventually gains the rank of Jedi Knight (through a trial of spirit) and fights alongside the Rebel Alliance. In one of the show’s most powerful moments, Kanan sacrifices himself to save his friends, truly embodying the selflessness of a Jedi. His legacy lives on through Ezra and his son (Jacen Syndulla).

Cal KestisFallen Order’s Padawan turned Jedi survivor. Cal is the protagonist of the Jedi: Fallen Order and Jedi: Survivor video games. A former Padawan of Master Jaro Tapal, Cal survived Order 66 and hid as a shipbreaker. “During the early reign of the Empire, [Cal] lives in seclusion” to avoid detection. Circumstances push him to embrace his Jedi past when Imperial Inquisitors hunt him. Cal adventures across the galaxy, rebuilding his connection to the Force, eventually growing “into a fierce Jedi Knight”. He even knights himself in a moment of self-realization. With guidance from allies like Cere Junda, Cal faces Vader’s forces and helps protect the next generation of Force-sensitive children. His journey from trauma and hiding to becoming a confident Jedi symbolizes hope after the Purge.

Cere JundaJedi Master turned mentor. Cere is introduced in Fallen Order as a former Jedi Knight who cut herself off from the Force. She survived Order 66 but carries guilt that her Padawan (Trilla) fell to the dark side. Living in exile, “Cere Junda has been in seclusion for years” after the Purge. She becomes Cal Kestis’s mentor, helping him restore his Jedi abilities. Eventually, Cere rekindles her own connection to the Force and is officially a Jedi Master by Jedi: Survivor. Cere’s knowledge (she was once a Jedi Temple archivist) and sacrifice – she confronts Darth Vader to buy time for Cal – make her an important Jedi survivor character in the expanded canon.

Aayla SecuraTwi’lek Jedi Master and Clone Wars general. Aayla is recognizable by her blue skin and lekku head-tails. Trained by Quinlan Vos, she became a Jedi Knight known for her bravery. Aayla fought on Geonosis and served as a general in the Clone Wars. Renowned for her athletic lightsaber style, she commanded troops on many worlds. Sadly, Aayla Secura was among the Jedi betrayed by their clone troopers – she was killed during Order 66 on Felucia. Her striking design made her a fan-favorite background Jedi (originating from the comics). “Secura…went on to become a general in the Clone Wars before being slain by her own forces when Order 66 was carried out on Felucia.”

Kit FistoAmphibious Jedi Master with a famous grin. A green Nautolan from Glee Anselm, Kit Fisto sat on the Council and was known for his easygoing nature and undersea combat skill. He fought in the Battle of Geonosis and many Clone Wars episodes, often alongside his friend General Obi-Wan. Master Fisto’s mastery of Form I lightsaber combat made him formidable, even underwater (as seen when he led the Mon Cala campaign). He was part of Mace Windu’s team that moved to arrest Darth Sidious. Unfortunately, Fisto was cut down by Sidious in that confrontation – he “survived just a few seconds” against the Sith Lord’s onslaught. Kit Fisto’s warm smile and prowess (especially shown in the Clone Wars media) cement his place among notable Jedi.

Due to his species, he always wears an antiox mask in oxygen atmospheres. Plo Koon is known for a close bond with his clones and a deep voice of authority. He met his end in Order 66, when his starfighter was shot down by clone pilots. Fans remember Master Plo for his kindness (especially toward Ahsoka) and his distinctive appearance. “Plo Koon was a Kel Dor Jedi Master…who led his battalion on several difficult operations”, always embodying the Jedi ideals of leadership and compassion.

In various Star Wars media, Shaak Ti has multiple fates (deleted scenes show her killed by Grievous, or by Anakin). In Legends, she survived past Order 66 for a time. In any telling, Shaak Ti was a formidable warrior“a great warrior and a committed follower of Jedi teachings,” who ultimately was killed during the Jedi Temple siege (legends say by Anakin Skywalker). Shaak Ti’s elegance and mentorship (she trained future Inquisitor Starkiller in an alternate storyline) make her memorable.

Ki-Adi-Mundi Jedi Master Blue Lightsaber

Ki-Adi-MundiCerean Jedi Master with a tall conical head. Ki-Adi-Mundi sat on the Jedi Council in the prequel era. A stoic and logical thinker, he was one of the few Jedi Masters allowed to marry (due to his species’ low birth rate). Ki-Adi-Mundi fought at Geonosis and led clone troops on multiple fronts (notably Mygeeto). He was killed by his clones during Order 66, memorably turning to face them with confusion as they opened fire. “During the Republic’s latter years, Ki-Adi-Mundi was a Cerean Jedi Master and Council member” who served honorably in the Clone Wars. His dignified presence and distinctive appearance made him a notable Jedi in the films.

Tragically, she was killed in combat by Sith apprentice Savage Opress (as seen in The Clone Wars series). “Adi Gallia was a Jedi Master on the High Council…she engaged in various battles until Darth Maul’s brother Savage Opress assassinated her”. After her death, her cousin Stass Allie took her Council seat. Gallia’s presence in Episode I’s Council scene and her expanded role in Clone Wars make her a recognized Jedi.

Unfortunately, Stass Allie was killed during Order 66 while on speeder patrol – shot by her clone troopers on Saleucami. “Stass Allie…became a Jedi General and Council member after her cousin Adi Gallia’s death, but she would not last long – she was gunned down on Saleucami during Order 66.”. Though a quieter presence, Stass Allie is seen briefly in Episode III during her tragic demise.

Eeth KothZabrak Jedi Master and Council member. Eeth Koth served on the Council in Episode I (valued for his resolve and pain tolerance as a Zabrak). During the Clone Wars, Koth was captured and tortured by General Grievous but resisted bravely until rescued. Surviving Geonosis, he later left the Council (in Legends he died during the Clone Wars; in canon he survived past Order 66 only to be hunted down by Vader’s Inquisitors). “Eeth Koth served on the Council and as a Jedi General…he was abducted by Grievous and used as bait but survived”. His legacy continued indirectly, as in comics Vader confronts Eeth Koth after the Purge. (Interestingly, Koth’s spot on the Council was taken by Agen Kolar in Episode III).

Agen KolarZabrak Jedi Master known for his courage. Often confused with Eeth Koth (due to similar appearance), Agen Kolar took Koth’s place on the Jedi Council by the Clone Wars. He fought at Geonosis and participated in many battles. Kolar was one of the three masters slain by Darth Sidious in the Chancellor’s office when Mace Windu attempted to arrest Palpatine. “Agen Kolar…took part in the First Battle of Geonosis and later was part of the posse to arrest Palpatine; he was swiftly dispatched by the Sith Lord.”. His death was sudden, highlighting Sidious’s speed and Kolar’s unfortunate role as the first to fall.

Even PiellLannik Jedi Master and Council member. A diminutive alien with one eye, Even Piell was a tough Jedi warrior. He served on the Council and was respected for his combat skills and fierce demeanor. Piell lost his left eye in battle years before. In The Clone Wars series, he was shown sacrificing himself to help his comrades escape the “Citadel” prison. “Even Piell…rose to become a Jedi Master and Council member. By the war’s end, he returned to the Jedi cause. (In Kenobi (2022) it’s hinted he survived into the Imperial era, helping younglings in the Path network.)

In canon, Billaba took Caleb Dume (Kanan) as her Padawan. She heroically made a last stand to protect Caleb when their clone troopers turned on them, yelling “run” to her Padawan as she was struck down. “Depa Billaba…was trained by Mace Windu and served on the Council. She was present when Qui-Gon brought Anakin to the Council”. Her death at the onset of Order 66 haunted Kanan but inspired him to keep the Jedi way alive. As a Padawan, she fought Darth Revan, helping capture and redeem him. Bastila later became Revan’s close companion (and in Legends, his wife). “Bastila Shan…was a legendary Jedi Master who fought in the Jedi Civil War during the fall of the Old Republic”. Though briefly tempted by the dark side (Revan had to duel her back to the light), Bastila ultimately remained true to the Jedi. Revan “broke away from the Jedi Order, became a Dark Lord of the Sith, and formed a Sith Empire that waged war against the Republic”. Eventually, the Jedi captured him and wiped his memory, retraining Revan as a Jedi who defeated his former apprentice (Darth Malak). After ending the war, Revan regained his memories and went to face the “True Sith” threat in the Unknown Regions. In short, Revan walked both paths: falling to darkness but returning to the light. He is a complex figure symbolizing redemption. (Note: Revan remains non-canon in current lore aside from a few references.)

Meetra Surik (Jedi Exile)Heroine of KOTOR II (Legends). Meetra Surik was a Jedi General under Revan who cut her connection to the Force out of guilt after activating a superweapon at Malachor V. Known as the Exile, she wandered until she was called to confront the Sith Triumvirate (Darths Nihilus, Sion, Traya) threatening the last Jedi. Meetra re-built her connection to the Force, “engineered the defeat of the Sith Triumvirate,” and helped restore the Jedi Order. Afterward, she went to find Revan and ultimately sacrificed herself to help him (betrayed by Sith Emperor Vitiate’s guard). Meetra’s journey is characterized by her resilience and unique ability to form bonds. In Legends, she was later honored as a Jedi Master for her pivotal role in saving the Order.

After Endor, Mara eventually abandons her role as Palpatine’s agent and joins the New Republic. Through Luke’s influence, she lets go of her hatred and becomes a Jedi. Mara and Luke marry, and she attains the rank of Jedi Master. Mara Jade “was a former Emperor’s Hand, smuggler, and trader who became a Jedi Master” and Luke’s wife. Renowned for her skills and sharp wit, Mara Jade played a key role in Legends – from helping defeat Grand Admiral Thrawn to training Jedi students. She struggled at times with the burdens of being a hero, but remained steadfast. In the Legacy of the Force crisis, Jaina ultimately had to confront her brother Jacen when he fell to the dark side. In an epic lightsaber duel, Jaina defeated Darth Caedus, ending his reign of terror. Afterward, she married Jagged Fel (a Imperial pilot) and, in some depictions, helped lead the Imperial Knights. Jaina Solo was “the twin sister of Jacen Solo, the older sister of Anakin Solo, and was named the Sword of the Jedi for her courageous acts during the Yuuzhan Vong invasion,” eventually serving on the Jedi Council.

Yaddle – A female of Yoda’s species who sat on the Council in Episode I. Yaddle had a gentler disposition and was a master of Jedi lore. Tales of the Jedi (2022) depicted her being killed by Dooku before the Clone Wars, sacrificing herself in an attempt to turn him back from the dark. In Legends, Yaddle died protecting civilians from a biochemical weapon. Her brief appearance has left a cultural impact – especially once Grogu appeared, fans drew connections between him, Yoda, and Yaddle’s mysterious species.

Jacen Solo (Darth Caedus)Heroic Jedi turned Sith Lord (Legends). Jacen, twin brother of Jaina, was a thoughtful and powerful Jedi Knight. As a teenager, Jacen was “a leading Jedi Knight who proved crucial in defeating the Yuuzhan Vong” during that war. He had a deep philosophical side, always pondering the nature of the Force. After the Vong war, Jacen’s journey took a darker turn: visions of a looming galactic conflict led him to learn from various Force sects and ultimately from the revived Sith Lady Lumiya. Seduced by the promise of peace through power, Jacen fell to the dark side and became Darth Caedus, the new Dark Lord. As Caedus, he “turned against his family and friends, betraying his former principles and leading the Galactic Alliance into a reign of terror” – even killing his aunt Mara Jade. Jacen believed his tyranny was necessary to save the galaxy, but he was eventually stopped by Jaina. Jacen Solo’s tragic arc from compassionate Jedi to ruthless Sith is one of the most compelling in Legends.

He was a former Imperial stormtrooper who defected to the Rebellion”. Kyle’s journey takes him through temptations by the dark side (he briefly gives up the Force fearing corruption, then returns). By the time of the Yuuzhan Vong war, Kyle is a Jedi Master and Council member, respected for his skills and no-nonsense attitude. Many fans see Kyle Katarn as the archetypal EU Jedi hero.

After Exar Kun’s influence was cleansed, Kyp returned to the Jedi path and eventually became one of Luke’s top Jedi Masters. “Kyp Durron was a legendary yet polarizing figure – a leading Jedi Master of the New Jedi Order” who had once fallen to darkness. He led a more hard-line activist approach among the Jedi (advocating aggressive action against threats). Kyp fought bravely in the Yuuzhan Vong War and beyond. Despite his dark past, he remained a powerful force for good and served on the Jedi Council, though his bold methods often sparked debate within the Order.

He’s a fan-favorite for his everyman perspective among the Jedi.

Luminara Unduli – A Mirialan Jedi Master known for her calm and discipline. Luminara commanded the 41st Elite Corps in the Clone Wars and mentored Barriss Offee. Barriss Offee – Luminara’s Mirialan Padawan who fought in the Clone Wars. Skilled healer, but became disillusioned with the Jedi’s role in the war. Barriss betrayed the Order by bombing the Temple, an act of protest that injured many (as seen in The Clone Wars). Her treachery framed Ahsoka Tano, leading to Ahsoka’s departure. Barriss was caught and imprisoned – her fate after Order 66 is unclear. Her fall foreshadowed Anakin’s, as a Jedi who succumbed to darkness from within.

Ben SkywalkerSon of Luke Skywalker and Mara Jade (Legends). Ben was born during a time of galactic upheaval and was Force-sensitive from birth. Initially resistant to Jedi training due to trauma from the Yuuzhan Vong war, he later became a dedicated Jedi Knight under the mentorship of Jacen Solo—who would tragically become Darth Caedus. Ben eventually rejected Jacen’s dark path and played a key role in his downfall. Known for his investigative mind and strong will, Ben represents the continuation of the Skywalker legacy in the Legacy of the Force and Fate of the Jedi series. His storied past is explored in the Edge of Balance manga and the The Blade comic series. Engle’s skill with the blade is unmatched, and he is both humorous and wise. Despite his retirement, he continues to protect the galaxy with unmatched efficiency when needed. His character shows the quieter, reflective side of Jedi life after decades of service.

Elzar is deeply introspective and experimental with the Force, often trying techniques outside the orthodox Jedi path. He shares a strong, complicated bond with Avar Kriss and struggles with prophetic visions and emotional temptation. His internal conflict and eventual acts of redemption make him one of the more complex Jedi of the High Republic. Featured heavily in The Rising Storm and The Fallen Star, Elzar embodies both Jedi brilliance and human fallibility.

Cere JundaFormer Jedi Knight and mentor in the Fallen Order video games (Canon). Cere survived Order 66 and went into hiding, severing her connection to the Force after her Padawan, Trilla Suduri, was turned into an Inquisitor. In Jedi: Fallen Order, she guides Cal Kestis on his journey and ultimately reclaims her place as a Jedi Master. Her knowledge of the Jedi Archives and struggle with guilt make her a deeply layered character. She continues her mission in Jedi: Survivor, sacrificing everything to protect Jedi knowledge from Darth Vader.
